Architecture | French River Provincial Park Visitor Centre

September 23, 2012

Walking down the sloping drive from the parking lot, visitors only see the first, unimposing view of the roof of the visitor centre. When they come level to the building, they can take in its many angles and corners as they walk in and around it. I love how the building is nestled into the surrounding landscape, yet a distinct element. I normally don’t like what is now the ubiquitous use of glass and concrete materials, but here the concrete, glass and wood reflect the components of the surrounding landscape, creating harmony and contrast at once.
