Topography of Terror | Berlin Wall

June 1, 2013

In my previous trips to Berlin, I’d never been to this area as I tend to stick to visiting galleries and general street wandering. It was impressive to see such a long stretch of the Berlin Wall opposite the new, sombre and subdued Topography of Terror building. I think the design of the space between the building and the wall remnants evokes the restricted areas that used to run along the wall, and connotes the sense of division created by the wall. It was remarkable to experience, as I’d always thought that partitioning a major city in two was one of the most unbelievably absurd and tragic human endeavours in history.

Such a strange place, and indeed a strange episode in history.
